Ricochet Racing Postmortem

This game was a lot of fun. The jam them was Last Stand and the hit the wall for a speed boost mechanic was inspired by a Nascar driver that went viral a while ago when he scraped his car against a wall to maintain speed through a corner to win.

What went right:

Working baseline - I started with the Unity kart racing minigame so I started out with a working Kart, track segment prefabs and simple menus/hud. Very important when you're a solo dev with very limited time.

Small scope - The collision speed boost mechanic was straightforward to implement as where the mobile controls.

What went wrong:

Time wasted on graphics - I spent more time getting PSX style graphics post processing to work than on anything else. Turn out none of this works in Unity WebGL so it was basically wasted effort. The Windows build has it but players are 1000:1 web vs. download.
